BYD in Thailand Meeting on Price Reduction Complaint and Remedial Measures

TapTechNews July 31st news, according to Thai Headline News Agency, on July 31st, Thailand's Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, Jirapong, met with senior executives of BYD (Thailand) to discuss the issue that consumers complained to the Office of the Consumer Protection Commission that the price reduction of BYD ATTO3 cars by about 100,000 Thai baht ($3000) has led to unfair treatment of previous car owners.

After the meeting with BYD executives ended, Jirapong said that today's talks with the Thai dealer of BYD, ReverAutomotive Company, discussed the remedial measures that the company can take and the measures that consumers feel appropriate and fair. The initial plan is that ReverAutomotive will launch a measure from August 1st, allowing old customers who purchased cars before the price reduction to charge for free for one year at 2000 BYD charging piles nationwide. This measure applies to about 50,000 vehicles, and the specific way to claim will be notified later.

This measure is an initial measure, and other remedial measures will be brought back to the company for further discussion and research. The company will invite representatives and complainants for mediation, and then a formal press conference will be held to inform the public.

According to research company Counterpoint, BYD occupied 46% of the Thai electric vehicle market share in the first quarter of 2024, and is also the third largest player in the passenger car market with a share of about 9%.

According to a Thai government statement, a BYD customer complained that the sales representative promised that the price of the customer's car would rise after the discount campaign ended, but the dealer then significantly reduced the price again.
