AMD to Unify Processor SKUs on Mobile Side, Lenovo ThinkBook Product Manager Reveals

TapTechNews May 15th news, Lenovo ThinkBook product manager @FutureThinking today released a Weibo, indicating that AMD will no longer differentiate processor -U/HS/H versions on the mobile side starting from the upcoming StrixPoint, covering a single SKU with a standard TDP of 15~45W.

Currently, the -U suffix version of AMD mobile processors corresponds to a default 28W thermal design power, which can be configured between 15~30W; while the -HS version corresponds to a default 45W thermal design power, which can be configured between 35~54W; the -H version is the same as the -HS version.

For upstream and downstream manufacturers, a unified processor SKU can reduce the complexity of operations and testing; however, for users, they can no longer quickly confirm the approximate performance level of the notebook through the suffix.

@FutureThinking reminded once again that although the HX name will be retained, the current (referring to the near future) definition of HX will also be adjusted.

According to previous reports by TapTechNews, AMD plans to launch the RyzenAI9HX170 CPU as the flagship model of the Strix series processors.
