PCI-SIG Announces Updates on PCIe 6.0 and PCIe 7.0 Standards

TapTechNews June 15th news, the Peripheral Component Interconnect Special Interest Group (PCI-SIG) held the 2024 Developer Conference this week and announced the latest progress of PCIe 6.0 and PCIe 7.0, indicating that although the above two standards have made certain progress, the deployment and popularization time will be slower than expected.

PCI-SIG has currently postponed the start of the 'Compliance Program'. The initial compliance test of PCIe 6.0 was originally scheduled to begin in March this year, but has now been postponed to the'second quarter', that is, it will be tested by the end of this month.

The organization said that the in-depth compliance test of PCIe 6.0 will start in 2025, and the final specification of PCIe 7.0 is still planned to be released in 2025, but the corresponding Live Compliance program has been postponed to 2028.

TapTechNews note: These products will initially be used in data centers, then in industrial, automotive, aerospace and military applications, and then in consumer electronics. Any delay in any link may lead to the delay of the entire road map.

A new PCI-SIG demonstration also includes the latest information on the standard upgrade to fiber optic connection. The new CopperLink standard was introduced last month, aiming to provide data center builders with more wiring options.

However, the increasingly fast PCIe standards are challenging the limits of current wiring technology, and PCI-SIG is taking optical connection as the successor standard.
