Qualcomm Redesigns Snapdragon 8Gen4 Processor to Compete with Apple's Processors

TapTechNews May 13 news, according to sources jasonwill101 revealed that Qualcomm is currently redesigning the Snapdragon 8Gen4 processor, with a new target frequency of 4.26GHz, mainly to cope with Apple's M4/A18/Pro processor.

It is reported that Qualcomm is optimistic about the redesigned processor. They believe that thanks to TSMC's 3-nanometer N3E process, the Snapdragon 8Gen4 is expected to achieve the target frequency.

However, TapTechNews noticed that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Gen4 does not support Scalable Matrix Extension (SME) function. Considering that Apple has adopted the ARMv9 architecture and supports the Scalable Matrix Extension technology (SME), while Qualcomm's competitors lack related features, the new target frequency of 4.26GHz for the Snapdragon 8Gen4 processor may be to make up for the performance gap. However, it seems that smartphone manufacturers may need to adopt a larger heat dissipation area to keep the Snapdragon 8Gen4 running at high performance continuously.
