Tesla's FSD V12.5.x to Adopt Unified Autonomous Driving Software Stack for Highway and Urban Use

TapTechNews July 11th news, Tesla CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) once again confirmed that the FSD V12.5.x version will adopt a unified autonomous driving software stack for highway and urban road driving. This update is expected to bring a smoother driving experience to Teslas equipped with FSD (Supervised).

Currently, Tesla has begun to push the FSD V12.4.3 version to some users, but the user feedback is mixed. For example, the blogger @WholeMarsBlog who has long tested FSDBeta said on the social media platform X that the FSD V12.4.3 still shows the situation of drawing a snake in the lane when driving on the highway.

Elon Musk seems to be aware of this problem and also hinted at the upcoming improvement in the FSD's highway driving performance. The 12.5.x version will finally integrate the software stack for highways and urban areas, Elon Musk wrote.

TapTechNews noted that this is not the first time Elon Musk has mentioned the unified FSD software stack for highway and urban driving. As early as May this year, Elon Musk expected that the FSD V12.5 would be launched at the end of June and bring significant improvements. 12.5 will be released at the end of June and will also bring major improvements in MPI, and a single software stack - the highway no longer uses the implicit stack, Elon Musk wrote at that time.

It is worth mentioning that Elon Musk also confirmed at that time that the Tesla Cybertruck that has not yet been equipped with the autonomous driving assistance system will obtain the FSD function after receiving the FSD V12.5 update, but Elon Musk did not repeat this statement in the recent X platform post.

Industry insiders pointed out that the previous version of FSD adopted a dual-stack system, that is, Tesla's traditional Autopilot software stack for highway driving, and the FSD software stack for urban road driving. FSD V11 once unified these two stacks, but then Tesla adopted independent software decision-making processes for highway and urban driving again. With the V12.5 once again adopting a single software stack solution, the overall performance of FSD may be further improved.
