NIO CEO Li Bin on Industry, Sustainability and Future Outlook

TapTechNews September 22nd news, after the launch event of LeDao L60, Li Bin, the founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, accepted media interviews.

According to Leifeng.com, a media asked him: Now in the auto industry that is not so ideal and not so rational, LeDao's price has raised the bar again. What are the moats of NIO brand and LeDao brand?

TapTechNews attached Li Bin's reply as follows:

We have endured a lot over the years. Our peers are excellent, and many people imply and disassemble us. The way we choose is not to disassemble, but to directly and happily compare, but we don't do things behind the scenes, usually communicate more positively and frankly.

Some users live-streamed and said we lose money. If we make a lot of money at this volume now, then there is a problem instead. The industry is an industry with intensive capital, intensive technology, intensive talent and a very long industrial chain. Industry companies have gone through decades and hundreds of years of history. Some time ago, I had a test drive exchange with Mr. Yin of Chery. I said, Mr. Yin, you have been doing well recently. He said I have been doing it for 27 years, and the first 24 years were hard, and only in the last two or three years has it gotten a little better. Even Tesla didn't make a profit until it was established for 16 years. I think this is the true portrayal of the auto industry. There is no quick victory and no fluke.

Maybe after five or ten years, other hotels have opened and made money, but your building is still under construction. So what? I don't want to build a ten-story building. I hope to build a 100 (story) building.

Doing battery swapping is because it meets the market demand and user scenarios in China. I spent three years to understand and study battery swapping, not studying successful cases, but failed cases. Two days ago, a user said that Tesla wanted to do it but gave up. He didn't really give up, but didn't succeed, or when he did it, he found that his car wasn't designed like this, and the cost was too great. But we are native and start from scratch to think, so it is easier to promote.

Our thinking is very simple:

First, starting from the user's interests, written in the company's vision driving force.

Second, commercially sustainable. Although the whole network teaches me to be a CEO, I am a person who has made money. Don't I consider commercial sustainability? I'm not stupid. We can do the accounting, but our accounting is not for a quarter or a year's accounting.

Commercial sustainability is very important, but it must be viewed with a time dimension. A business that makes money on the first day is definitely not a good business. Amazon Web Services has lost money for more than 20 years, and Tesla has lost money for 16 years. We have raised 18.9 billion US dollars from the global to China to develop China's intelligent electric vehicle industry, and most of the investments are used in basic R & D. Even if these employees don't work for NIO, they are also very important seeds. Even if the supply chain serves others, we are also very happy, and we have promoted many innovative supply chains.

Third, it should be beneficial to society and sustainable.

Why LeDao set 60 degrees of electricity as the basic endurance, because more than 500 kilometers is enough for daily use for users. Charging or swapping batteries a few times a month is enough. For long-distance travel, swapping to 85 degrees and the future longer endurance 1000 kilometers battery, how much resources can be saved. Because of NIO's battery swapping, the option of 75 degrees of electricity is 97%, and 100 degrees of electricity is 3%. It not only saves money for users, but also saves how much social resources.

Problem of battery life. Batteries also age. Don't you answer this question? In the past eight years, there have been nearly 20 million new energy vehicles in stock in China. In the next eight years, it means that these 20 million will gradually be out of the battery warranty period. Don't you solve this problem? For a battery pack, it costs more than 60,000 yuan to buy, which is also 1.2 trillion. Don't you solve it?

So it is beneficial to users, the enterprise can operate sustainably, but within a normal evaluation cycle, and then society and industry can be sustainable. This is actually the way NIO does things. I just think like this. I think it's right. Do I have to tell a lie?
