Tesla Sues EVject over Alleged Safety Hazards of Third-Party Charger

TapTechNews August 4th news, electric vehicle giant Tesla has sued a third-party charger accessory manufacturer, EVject, which is highly praised by electric vehicle users. Tesla claims in the lawsuit that the charging connector has serious safety hazards and damages Tesla's brand image.

According to TapTechNews, Tesla has the largest electric vehicle charging network in North America, and some of its supercharging stations are located in relatively remote places with potentially lower nighttime safety. EVject says that since Tesla has to unplug the charging plug to start the vehicle, drivers may face danger in an emergency.

The official website of EVject products claims that the device allows drivers to disconnect the charger and drive away without leaving the vehicle, and the disconnection function of the connector can also protect the Tesla charging port and supercharging plug from damage in an emergency. Therefore, EVject products are deeply loved by electric vehicle owners, especially women and young drivers, and some of them have said that they have felt unsafe when charging late at night.

However, Tesla alleges in the lawsuit that EVject wrongly promotes the safety of its products, and the products lack overheat protection and pose safety risks. Tesla said in the lawsuit filed in the federal district court in the Northern District of California: If there is an overheating situation in the connector, the lack of overheat protection will pose a safety risk. Tests have shown that after charging at 420 amps for 30 minutes, the surface temperature of the connector may reach 100 degrees Celsius.

Tesla also pointed out: When overheated, users may be burned if they touch or grasp the connector. In addition, the high temperature of the connector also poses a risk of fire, which may ignite combustibles in the charging cable, the vehicle, and other charging infrastructure.
