SK Hynix Supplies Exclusive Automotive-Grade HBM2E to Waymo

TapTechNews August 15th news, according to the Korean media ZDNetKorea report, SK Hynix vice president KangWook-Sung said yesterday that the company has exclusively supplied automotive-grade HBM2E memory to Waymo, an autonomous driving company under Alphabet, Google's parent company.

SK Hynix is currently the only company that can supply HBM chips that comply with the AEC-Q automotive standard certification. TapTechNews learned that the capacity of SK Hynix's automotive-grade HBM2E product is 8GB, and the rate is 3.2Gbps, which can provide a bandwidth of 410GB/s.

KangWook-Sung also said that in addition to HBM2E, SK Hynix is in the process of preparing for the automotive standard certification of HBM3 memory.

KangWook-Sung believes that as the level of autonomous driving improves, the demand for the storage medium capacity by the self-driving system will also continue to rise:

For L3-level autonomous driving, 128GB of DRAM and 1TB of NAND are required; while the demand for DRAM for L4-level autonomous driving will increase to 384GB, and the demand for NAND will increase even more to 4TB.

In terms of the automotive NAND storage form, UFS has become a new specification in recent years, and automotive solid-state drives have recently begun to be commercialized.
