Uber and BYD Announce Long-Term Strategic Partnership for EVs

TapTechNews July 31st, Uber Technologies and BYD Co., Ltd. today announced a long-term strategic partnership to introduce 100,000 BYD electric vehicles on the Uber platform in multiple global markets.

In addition, the two companies will also cooperate in the development of autonomous driving technology and deploy vehicles based on BYD's autonomous driving technology on the Uber platform.

According to the statement, the cooperation between the two parties will first unfold in Europe and Latin America, and then expand to markets such as the Middle East, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

To support drivers in using electric vehicles, the cooperation between the two companies may also involve charging, vehicle maintenance or insurance discounts, as well as financing and leasing concessions, depending on the specific plan in a specific market.

Through the cooperation, the two sides aim to reduce the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles for Uber drivers, accelerate the popularity of electric vehicles on the global Uber platform, and bring a more environmentally friendly travel experience to millions of passengers.

Referring to TapTechNews' previous report, BYD's new energy vehicle sales in June were 341,700 units, an increase of 35.02% year-on-year, among which 27,000 new energy passenger vehicles were sold overseas.
