Apple Discontinues ApplePayLater, Affirm Partners with iOS18 and iPadOS18 for Installment Payments

TapTechNews September 17th news, Apple discontinued its buy-now-pay-later service, ApplePayLater, which had been in operation for a year in June this year. (This service allows eligible customers to pay their ApplePay orders in four installments over six weeks without interest or fees).

Apple later stated that starting from iOS18 and iPadOS18, users can apply for 'installment payment' to another financial company, Affirm, when checking out with ApplePay. With the official launch of iOS18 and iPadOS18, Affirm also officially announced its partnership with Apple today and shared more details.

Starting today, eligible US users can use Affirm to make installment payments for eligible ApplePay orders, with the option of 'every two weeks' or'monthly' payment, and TapTechNews found that the Affirm press release also emphasized 'annual interest rate as low as 0%'.

As shown in the picture, iOS18 and iPadOS18 users can choose 'other cards and buy-now-pay-later options' when using ApplePay to pay, and then choose Affirm.

Users who pass the qualification review will see their exclusive payment plan, and users can also choose the plan that suits them best. Users can double-click the side button and use FaceID or TouchID to authenticate to confirm their purchase, and Affirm users who already have the AffirmCard will also see the option of Affirm on ApplePay at checkout.

Affirm said that in order to adhere to its long-standing commitment to consumer lending, each transaction will be individually underwritten, and consumers will never pay a penny more in late fees or unexpected charges.
