TapTechNews July 11th news, SAIC MG has released the new-generation MG HS, which made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The all-new second-generation MG HS features a sharper look, a more spacious cabin, and a more powerful plug-in hybrid system.

Although not explicitly stated by MG, it can be seen that the new HS is actually based on the third-generation Roewe RX5 that has already been launched in China. This can be seen from the shared body sheet metal outline and window glass design, as well as the same lamp group shape. However, MG HS achieves its own differentiation through a unique front bumper, air intake grille, and more sporty air intakes.

The new model has a length of 4655-4670 millimeters and a width of 1890 millimeters, which is between the Toyota RAV4 and the Honda CR-V in terms of size. The wheelbase is 2765 millimeters, an increase of 45 millimeters compared to the previous generation.

MG says the new HS has a more spacious cabin that can accommodate five passengers and has a luggage compartment volume of 507 liters. The car is equipped with dual 12.3-inch displays and a new space capsule-style shift lever in the center console.

The new car is standard with a wireless charging pad, an 8-speaker audio system, a 360-degree panoramic camera, and the MGPilot ADAS driver assistance system.

In terms of the powertrain, the MG HS still offers two options: a petrol version and a plug-in hybrid version, but the latter has been significantly upgraded. The petrol version still uses a 1.5T engine, and the power output has a slight increase compared to the old model, with a maximum power of 170 horsepower and a peak torque of 275 N·m. The 0-60mph acceleration time of this car is 9.4 seconds. The transmission system is matched with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The plug-in hybrid version is equipped with a hybrid system composed of a 1.5T engine and an electric motor. The maximum power of the engine is 144 horsepower, and the maximum power of the electric motor is 209 horsepower. It is equipped with a 24.7-kilowatt-hour battery pack, and the pure electric range is 121 kilometers. The 0-60mph acceleration time of this car is 6.8 seconds.

The starting price of the all-new MG HS petrol version is £24,995 (TapTechNews note: currently about £234,000 RMB), and the starting price of the plug-in hybrid version is £31,495 (currently about £294,000 RMB). Currently, the new car has been opened for booking in the UK, and the first batch of deliveries is expected to begin at the end of July.
