Samsung Electronics' Largest Union to Hold Indefinite Strike

TapTechNews July 10th news, Bloomberg reported that due to 'confirmation that the company's management has no intention to have a dialogue', the largest union of Samsung Electronics, 'Korean National Samsung Electronics Union' announced today that it will hold an indefinite strike.

The Korean National Samsung Electronics Union has more than 30,000 members, accounting for about 24% of the total number of Samsung's employees in South Korea.

Since July 8th, more than 6500 workers of Samsung Electronics have been on strike, demanding higher wages and performance adjustment. The originally scheduled strike activity was for three days; at the strike on the 9th, the union warned that if the management fails to make an offer by Wednesday, an indefinite strike will be held.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, the dispute between the workers and Samsung mainly focuses on the following two points:

Too low salary increase: The Korean National Samsung Electronics Union believes that the 5.1% increase is too low and demands to increase the salary increase rate to 6.5%.

Performance bonus system: The union side requires Samsung Electronics to adjust the measurement standard of performance bonuses from calculating according to economic added value (net operating profit after tax minus capital investment) to the same as that of SK Hynix and LG Electronics, which is calculated according to operating profit.

Yesterday, the Yonhap News Agency reported that Samsung said that the current market situation is not conducive to meeting these requirements, and the factory production has not stopped as a result, and there has been no interruption.
