BYD to Set Up EV Assembly Plant in Cambodia, with Future Exports

TapTechNews July 16th news, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet posted on social media on July 15 local time, saying that he met with Liu Xueliang, the CEO of BYD Asia-Pacific Automobile Sales Division. BYD plans to invest in setting up an electric vehicle assembly plant in Cambodia, which can assemble 20,000 units per year.

Hun Manet said that the BYD electric vehicles assembled in Cambodia will also be exported to other countries and regions in addition to supplying the Cambodian market.

TapTechNews noted that BYD currently has automobile manufacturing and assembly plants in China, Thailand and other places. On July 4, BYD's Thai plant has been completed and put into production with an annual capacity of about 150,000 units.

In addition, the Indonesian industrial park developer Suryacipta Swadaya released a statement on April 30 saying that BYD has selected the industrial park Subang Smartpolitan as the site for an electric vehicle factory. The factory covers an area of more than 108 hectares, making BYD the largest tenant in the park and is expected to be operational in January 2026.

BYD's total passenger car sales in June 2024 were 340,211 units, and exports were 26,995 units, with a cumulative export of 203,404 units.
