AMD Launches EPYC 4004 Series Processors for SMEs

TapTechNews May 22nd news, AMD launched the EPYC (Threadripper) 4004 series processors for the small and medium-sized enterprise market yesterday, and the specific specifications can be referred to in the previous report of TapTechNews.

This series of processors is based on the mature AM5 platform and can be regarded as the server version of the consumer-grade Ryzen 7000 series processors. Before that, server (motherboard) suppliers have been continuously introducing entry-level server platforms directly based on the Ryzen processor.

Do the new EYPC4004 series processors compatible with the existing AM5 motherboards? Will it replace the position of Ryzen in the low-end server product line? The answers to these two questions have been obtained:

ASRock Rack under ASRock updated the BETA version firmware to its B650D4U-2L2T/BCM motherboard yesterday, adding EYPC4004 support to this B650 motherboard that supports AMD Ryzen 7000/8000 series processors.

This proves that if the motherboard gets the corresponding firmware update, EYPC4004 can indeed be directly used on the existing AM5 motherboard.

And on the second question, AMD confirmed to the foreign media Phoronix that the launch of EPYC4004 does not mean that the Ryzen series processors can no longer be used in the server field, and the server based on the Ryzen processor is also commercially reasonable.

For users who don't care about the enterprise-level functions brought by the EPYC4004 series processors and just need server hardware, the Ryzen server ecosystem will still exist, and relevant manufacturers will continue to introduce server-level Ryzen motherboards that support ECC memory.
