Apple's New Devices with Secret 'Thread' Module Discovered

TapTechNews June 6th news, in the era of technological self-media, disassembling new devices has long been a common sight, and it's extremely difficult for manufacturers to hide components from the discerning eyes of users. However, according to TheVerge report, Apple's latest M3 series Mac and M4 series iPad Pro seem to have achieved this. It wasn't until recently that people discovered that these devices secretly have a radio module called 'Thread'.

Apple's New Devices with Secret 'Thread' Module Discovered_0

The report pointed out that Apple added the Thread module when it launched the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Now it seems that many of Apple's new iPads and Macs released since last September have also quietly equipped with this important wireless connection technology for smart homes. Although the product specifications on Apple's official website do not mention the Thread module at all, the report of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) shows that many of Apple's latest devices have undergone compatibility tests for the Thread module. Generally speaking, manufacturers will not test for non-existent components.

The report also listed the device list that found the Thread module, including M4 iPad Pro, M3 MacBook Pro, M3 iMac, M2 iPad Air, etc.

The purpose of the Thread module is still unclear. TapTechNews noticed that when Apple launched the iPhone 15 Pro series that supports the Thread module, it did not explain too much, only saying: 'iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max... are the first smartphones to add the Thread function, opening up the possibility for the integration of the future Home App.'

It is not yet clear what these integrated functions will be, but the upcoming iOS 18 may give us some clues. If Apple plans to add new smart home functions in its upcoming software version and these functions require the support of a dedicated Thread module, then we are likely to get more news next week.
