Microsoft and Khan Academy Partner to Bring AI Tools to US Educators

TapTechNews May 22nd news, at the Microsoft Build conference, Microsoft and Khan Academy announced a new partnership to bring time-saving and curriculum-enhancing artificial intelligence tools to millions of educators in the United States.

By donating Azure AI-optimized infrastructure, Microsoft enables Khan Academy to provide free access to the Khanmigo for Teachers pilot project for all K-12 educators in the United States, which will be supported by the Azure OpenAI service. K-12 education is the general term for basic education in the United States, where 'K' in 'K12' represents Kindergarten and '12' represents the 12th grade (equivalent to the senior year in China).

In addition to providing creative curriculum plans, Khanmigo also offers a series of AI-driven suggestions and teacher tools, reducing the administrative burden on teachers. With just a click on the dashboard on the screen, teachers can generate customized curriculum plans within minutes or even shorter, and the difficulty can be adjusted according to the needs of students.

Before this, teachers had to pay $4 per month to use Khanmigo (TapTechNews note: currently about 29 RMB). Khan Academy estimates that the combined use of these tools can save teachers an average of five working hours per week.

The two companies will also cooperate to use the new version Phi-3 of the small language model (SLM) family developed by Microsoft to explore opportunities to improve AI tools for math tutoring in an economical, scalable and adaptable way.
