In Indian Smartphone Market, Xiaomi Tops in Shipments While Samsung Leads in Value in Q2 2024

TapTechNews July 31st news, the market research firm CounterpointResearch released a report. Affected by the heat wave, seasonal recession, and the slowdown in demand in the first quarter, the Indian smartphone shipments in the second quarter of 2024 decreased by 2% year-on-year.

In terms of market shipments: Xiaomi topped the list with an 18.9% share of shipments, followed closely by vivo; in terms of mobile phone shipment value, Samsung led the market with a 25% share, followed by vivo and Apple.

5G smartphones accounted for the highest share of 77% in the overall shipments. The shipments of mobile phones priced between 20,000 to 30,000 rupees (TapTechNews note: currently about 1,732 to 2,597 Chinese yuan) increased by 25%, and the shipments of those priced above 45,000 rupees (currently about 3,896 Chinese yuan) increased by 24%.

Xiaomi performed the most outstandingly. Thanks to streamlining the entry-level mobile phone to the economical high-end mobile phone product line and optimizing the product lineup, the company's shipments in the second quarter increased by 23% year-on-year and regained the top position in the market share.

The report said that Xiaomi has adopted strategies such as promoting flagship mobile phones, improving marketing, and expanding distribution channels, which will further consolidate its position.

Shipment value

Samsung led by a wide margin in value for the second consecutive quarter, occupying more than a quarter of the market share. With the new Galaxy ZFold6 and Galaxy ZFlip6, Samsung is expected to maintain this leading position.

vivo, with its high-priced models such as the V30 series equipped with enhanced cameras, occupied the second place. Apple ranked third in terms of value. But driven by the recent price reduction of the entire iPhone series, a rebound is expected in the next quarter.
