Global Semiconductor Sales Surge in August 2024 with Strong Growth in the Americas and China

TapTechNews October 5th news, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI) of the United States announced on October 4th that the global semiconductor sales in August 2024 reached 53.1 billion US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 374.65 billion Chinese yuan), an increase of 20.6% compared to 44 billion US dollars in August 2023 (currently about 310.444 billion Chinese yuan), and a 3.5% increase compared to 51.3 billion US dollars in July 2024 (currently about 361.95 billion Chinese yuan).

SEMI disclosed that this monthly sales data is compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization (WSTS) and uses a three-month moving average for statistics. SEMI, as a representative organization of the US semiconductor industry, the sales of its member companies account for 99% of the total US semiconductor market, and occupy nearly two-thirds of the market share among global non-US chip companies.

The president and CEO of SIA, John Neuffer, said: The global semiconductor market continued to grow significantly in August, setting the highest sales in August, monthly sales have increased for the fifth consecutive month. Driven by a 43.9% year-on-year increase in sales in the Americas, sales increased by the largest percentage since April 2022, and monthly sales in all regions increased for the first time since October 2023.

From a regional perspective, the sales in the Americas (43.9%), China (19.2%), Asia-Pacific and other regions (17.1%) and Japan (2.0%) all achieved year-on-year growth, but Europe decreased by 9%.
