Shanghai Metro Two Incidents of Mobile Phone and Power Bank Smoking

TapTechNews on October 5th, Shanghai Metro released a situation explanation stating that at around 12:20 noon on October 4th, a passenger's mobile phone suddenly emitted smoke in a train carriage at Xingzhong Road Station on Line 9, and at the same time, an emergency handle of a door was pulled down, and some passengers got off the train in a concentrated manner. After the emergency handling at the station, the train resumed operation, and there were no injuries during this period.

Shanghai Metro reminds passengers that during the subway travel process, safely keep the mobile phones, power banks and other electronic devices carried with them. Once any abnormal phenomena such as smoke or spontaneous combustion are found, please immediately contact the staff for help.

TapTechNews noticed that just last month, there was also a power bank spontaneous combustion incident on Shanghai Metro.

At around 2:15 pm on September 22nd, a passenger's carried power bank spontaneously combusted on the escalator from the station hall to the platform at Great World Station on Line 8. The station used a fire extinguisher to deal with it and did a good job in guiding the safe evacuation. There were no injuries, and during this period, it also received the help of enthusiastic passengers. This incident did not affect the station's operation.
