China's 300-Megawatt-Class F-Class Heavy-Duty Gas Turbine Achieves First Ignition

TapTechNews October 7th news, according to CCTV News, China's independently developed 300-megawatt-class F-class heavy-duty gas turbine successfully achieved its first ignition in Shanghai today for the first time, marking an important progress in the development of China's independently developed heaviest power and highest technical grade heavy-duty gas turbine, and fully entering the whole machine test verification stage.

According to the introduction, the technical indicators of this type of gas turbine are basically equivalent to those of the international mainstream F-class heavy-duty gas turbine. This ignition test initially verified the effectiveness of the whole machine design and manufacturing of this heavy-duty gas turbine and the functional integrity of the test system, laying the foundation for the comprehensive development of the whole machine verification.

TapTechNews previously reported that the first prototype of China's independently developed 300-megawatt-class F-class heavy-duty gas turbine was assembled and offline in Shanghai Lingang in February this year. It is composed of 5 major systems and more than 50,000 parts and components, and is China's first independently developed heaviest power and highest technical grade heavy-duty gas turbine.

The 300-megawatt-class F-class heavy-duty gas turbine was participated in the development by more than 200 enterprises, scientific research institutes, universities, etc. from 19 provinces and cities such as Beijing, Liaoning, Shanghai, and Jiangsu. On the basis of conquering the key core technologies such as the development of high-temperature alloy materials, the design of the control system, the design of components and the whole machine, and the manufacturing of hot-end components, the first domestic realization of the independent design and manufacture of high-power heavy-duty gas turbine.

Heavy-duty gas turbine is the core equipment in the energy field and can operate for a long time in a high-temperature, high-stress, and high-corrosion environment. It involves multi-physical field coupling and multi-disciplinary technology integration. The technical challenges in design, manufacturing, materials, testing, etc. are extremely high, and the difficulty of whole machine technology integration and system performance matching is extremely great, reflecting the industrial level of a country and being hailed as the 'crown jewel' of the equipment manufacturing industry.

Heavy-duty gas turbines can be divided into E, F, G/H, and J grades according to the gas working temperature, among which F grade is the mainstream model currently in service:

E grade (gas working temperature is about 1200°F (649°C))

F grade (gas working temperature is about 1400°F (760°C))

G/H grade (gas working temperature is about 1500°F (816°C))

J grade (gas working temperature is about 1600°F (871°C))
