BMW (China) Announces Multiple Recalls for Cars and Motorcycles

TapTechNews September 29th news, TapTechNews learned from the State Administration for Market Regulation that recently, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the State Administration for Market Regulation in accordance with the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products.

Recalling as of now:

Some imported 5 Series cars with production dates from January 15, 2024 to May 13, 2024, a total of 473 units;

Some imported 7 Series cars with production dates from January 15, 2024 to May 14, 2024, a total of 723 units;

Some imported i5 series cars with production dates from January 18, 2024 to May 13, 2024, a total of 18 units;

Some imported i7 series cars with production dates from January 16, 2024 to May 14, 2024, a total of 50 units.

In the vehicles within the scope of this recall, due to the adjustment of the supplier's production process, the bolt hole of the steering wheel grounding wire is not produced according to the specification, which may lead to abnormal grounding connection of the steering wheel, and the steering wheel off-hand detection system cannot recognize whether the driver's hand is off the steering wheel, increasing the safety risk of the driver and passengers after activating the vehicle's assisted driving function, and there is a potential safety hazard.

BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. will freely check the steering wheel grounding connection for the vehicles within the scope of the recall and reinstall it if necessary to eliminate the potential safety hazard.

This recall is an expanded recall of the BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. Recall of Some Imported 7 Series Cars released on December 1, 2023.

In addition, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. will recall a total of 298 imported R1300GS series motorcycles produced from August 23, 2023 to July 1, 2024 starting from September 29, 2024.

In the motorcycles within the scope of this recall, due to improper material selection of the starter relay housing, the housing is prone to damage, and moisture may enter the relay interior through the damaged area, resulting in failure of the relay function. In extreme cases, it may lead to overheating, smoking or smoldering of the relay, and even fire, presenting a potential safety hazard.

BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. will freely replace a new starter relay and upgrade the vehicle software for the vehicles within the scope of the recall to eliminate the potential safety hazard.
