China Telecom Establishes Joint Laboratory with Thai Partners for Future Tech

TapTechNews July 26th news, on July 23rd, during the 8th China-South Asia Expo, China Telecom jointly with the National Telecom Company of Thailand, the Thai Applied Research and Innovation Technology Development Company, the Industrial 5G Innovation Application (Dali) Research Institute, and Beijing Zhongke Jingshang Technology Co., Ltd. jointly established the China-Thailand Space-Air-Ground Integrated Future Information Technology Joint Laboratory, focusing on space-air-ground integrated future information technology, aiming to promote the theoretical research and application implementation of related technologies.

At the meeting, representatives from both China and Thailand jointly signed a memorandum of understanding. In the future, the two sides will focus on conducting research for space-air-ground integrated future information technology, building a complete multi-dimensional information technology system of space-air-ground integration, and jointly promoting the landing and operation of the Tiantong satellite mobile communication system in Thailand. Government representatives from both China and Thailand, relevant experts and scholars from the Institute of Computing Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and representatives of industrial chain partners made keynote speeches around the cooperation vision in the research and industrial development of space-air-ground integrated future information technology between China and Thailand.

China Telecom comprehensively introduced the operation and development situation of the Tiantong satellite, as well as the domestic industrial development situation such as mobile phones directly connected to satellites and cars directly connected to satellites. Currently, the Tiantong satellite has covered Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and other Southeast Asian countries. Satellite communication, as an effective supplement and extension of the ground communication network, can provide all-weather, all-time, stable and reliable mobile communication services to ensure that users can access the satellite network as needed and provide users with guaranteed communication. China Telecom is willing to work with the Thai side to jointly promote the landing, operation and large-scale development of the Tiantong satellite in Thailand, and provide satellite broadband service solutions for land emergency, marine and aviation fields.

TapTechNews noted that China Telecom has currently jointly launched more than ten consumer terminals supporting the direct connection to satellite function with domestic mainstream mobile phone terminal manufacturers such as Huawei, Honor, Xiaomi, OPPO, VIVO, and ZTE, and also jointly launched the world's first flagship car equipped with the Tiantong satellite communication function with BYD.
