Citing sources within Apple's supply chain, at least some of the new iPads to be launched in 2025 may carry Apple-designed Wi-Fi chips, but the report also said that the chip may not debut until the iPhone 18 series is released in 2026.

TapTechNews noted that the news of Apple's plan to design its own Wi-Fi chip first emerged in 2021, so the project seems to have been under development for quite some time.

Although it is not yet clear whether Apple's designed Wi-Fi chip will bring any consumer-end advantages, but it will enable Apple to reduce its reliance on the current Wi-Fi chip supplier Broadcom. Apple is committed to designing more hardware components by itself rather than relying on external suppliers.

The iPhone 16 series released this year all support Wi-Fi 7, and its advertised speed is up to four times that of Wi-Fi 6E.

Previously, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the first batch of devices equipped with Apple's self-developed 5G chip will also be launched next year, including a new iPhone SE and a model tentatively named iPhone 17 Air, and this chip will enable Apple to get rid of its reliance on the current 5G chip supplier Qualcomm.
