Microsoft Announces Release of First Hotpatch for Windows Server 2025 in Public Preview

TapTechNews September 21st news, the tech media NeoWin reported yesterday (September 20th) that Microsoft Corporation announced the release of the first hotpatch in the form of a public preview version for the Windows Server 2025 evaluation version, and will be officially launched this autumn.

Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition has previously supported hot patches, but requires the use of an Azure virtual machine or Azure Stack HCI.

Microsoft stated in the blog post that due to the use of the company's Azure Arc, both the standard and data center editions of Windows Server 2025 will support hot patches.

Supporting hot patches means that Windows Server 2025 can support important security updates without the time-consuming reboot process and distribute and install them into the operating system.

TapTechNews quoted Microsoft's official blog post, and attached the following advantages of supporting hot patches:

Reduce the number of reboots and reduce the impact on the workload. From 12 mandatory reboots every Patch Tuesday per year to now only needing to perform a planned reboot once a quarter (in very few cases, a reboot is required in the nominal Hotpatch month).

Fewer installation package files mean faster update download and installation speeds, while consuming less disk and CPU resources.

More convenient patch coordination and change control.

Integrate the optional Azure Update Manager
