China Issues Subsidy Rules for New Energy Buses and Battery Replacements

TapTechNews on August 1st reported that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Finance printed and distributed the 'Implementation Rules for New Energy Urban Buses and Power Battery Renewal Subsidies' on July 29th.

For urban public transport enterprises to renew new energy urban buses and replace power batteries, a fixed subsidy is given. It is encouraged to reasonably choose the type of new energy urban public transport vehicle length to be replaced in combination with factors such as passenger flow changes and the development of the urban public transport industry.

The subsidy funds support vehicles that are 8 years old and above, that is, urban public transport vehicles registered before December 31, 2016 (including that day) for vehicle renewal and power battery replacement of new energy urban public transport vehicles.

TapTechNews noted that the average subsidy for each vehicle is $9,000, among which, for the renewal of new energy urban buses, the average subsidy for each vehicle is $12,000; for the replacement of power batteries, the subsidy for each vehicle is $6,300. Each region, according to the subsidy funds arranged by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport and the performance goals issued, formulates its local subsidy standard.

The power battery replacement work of new energy urban public transport vehicles should be implemented under the premise of ensuring the overall vehicle safety. The new energy urban public transport vehicle operation enterprises and the power battery replacement service providers should follow the principle of 'whoever advocates, whoever is responsible; whoever replaces, whoever is responsible', and strictly implement the main responsibility for safety.
