Currently, there are indeed many tools in the market that can convert non-editable PDF files into editable documents, but it is difficult to retain the original layout after the conversion.

The latest paper of Microsoft is titled Methods and Systems for Generating Editable Documents from Non-Editable Documents, which uses artificial intelligence to retain visual elements such as fonts, colors, layout, and different format images.

TapTechNews briefly introduces the operation steps of this system. The system first examines the non-editable document to find out the arrangement of various elements (such as text, images, and tables), and uses bounding boxes to determine the positions and sizes of these elements.

The system can recognize the font used by the text in the non-editable document, and then uses an artificial intelligence model to select a color scheme according to the colors used in the original document.

The system will create a new editable document using the determined layout, font, and color scheme. The new document maintains the appearance and feel of the original non-editable document but allows for editing.

This technology can convert non-editable PDF files into editable files while retaining their original elements, and it can also resize them and keep all contents intact.
