How Does Apple Test iPhone's Durability?

TapTechNews May 30th news, do you want to know how Apple tests the dustproof, waterproof and shockproof performance of the iPhone? Apple invited Marques Brownlee, the host of the MKBHD channel, to visit the special laboratory equipped with custom durability testing machines.

Brownlee shared a series of videos yesterday and talked with Apple's hardware director John Ternus about how Apple tests the IP (dustproof/waterproof) rating, shock resistance, earthquake resistance and other mobile phone requirements.

As shown in the video, the Apple special laboratory is equipped with very sophisticated machines that can conduct thorough tests on each indicator. For example, one of the water ingress tests uses 13 jets of water and rotates almost 360 degrees at the same time, impacting the iPhone from various angles.

Brownlee said that Apple has strict durability tests formulated internally, and there is a whole room dedicated to waterproof/dustproof, and for the waterproof test, Apple conducts 4 levels of tests:

Level 1: A drip tray simulating rainwater, without real pressure. IPX4.

Level 2: Continuous low-pressure spraying from any angle. IPX5.

Level 3: High-pressure spraying like a fire hose. IPX6.

Level 4: Lock the phone underwater + increase the pressure to simulate the depth for a long time. IPX8.
