Chongqing Tailan New Energy Completes Series B Financing, Changan Automobile's Battery Plans

TapTechNews August 27th news, Chongqing Tailan New Energy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Tailan New Energy) announced on August 26th that it has completed several hundred million yuan in Series B strategic financing. This round of financing was jointly funded by Anhe Fund under Changan Automobile and multiple funds under the Ordnance Equipment Group.

Previously, Tailan New Energy has completed 5 rounds of financing, and the investors include Legend Capital, Liangjiang Capital, CICC Capital, China Merchants Venture Capital, Zhengqi Holding, Guoding Capital, etc.

Tailan New Energy is a solid-state battery R & D enterprise, focusing on the technical development and industrialization of new solid-state lithium batteries and key lithium battery materials. It has the whole industry chain development ability of key materials for solid-state batteries - cell design - process equipment - system integration, and launched the first vehicle-grade 720 Wh/kg volumetric all-solid-state battery in April this year.

TapTechNews noticed that Zhu Huarong, the chairman of Changan Automobile, said at the performance briefing of Changan Automobile in 2023 that the semi-solid battery developed by the group will be launched by the end of 2026. The company plans to launch 8 self-developed battery cells including liquid, semi-solid and solid by 2030, and form a battery capacity of 50-80 GWh.

Changan Automobile also stated that it will deeply cultivate the development of new electrolyte materials and key processes for semi-solid and solid batteries, and develop leading solid-state batteries based on the needs of the whole vehicle. It will be gradually mass-produced and applied from 2025, with a weight energy density of 350-500 Wh/kg and a volume energy density of 750-1000 Wh/L, and will be fully popularized and applied in 2030.
