In addition to security updates, Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS also adopts the Linux 6.8 kernel of 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) and integrates updated graphics drivers, further enhancing the system's hardware compatibility.

Compared to Mesa 24.0 used in Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS still maintains the Mesa 23.2.1 graphics stack, the reason is unknown.

In addition, all Ubuntu-based derivative distributions have also been updated to the 22.04.5 version, including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, UbuntuStudio, UbuntuBudgie, UbuntuMATE and UbuntuKylin.

It is worth mentioning that Canonical will provide three years of standard support for the Ubuntu 22.04 LTS system series (TapTechNews note: until June 2027), while the latest Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS version will receive five years of support (until June 2029), so if conditions permit, we recommend that you upgrade to the 24.04 LTS version.
