Microsoft Releases Emergency Update for Windows Server 2019

TapTechNews May 24th news, Microsoft today released an emergency out-of-band (OOB) update KB5039705 for Windows Server 2019, fixing the 0x800f0982 error caused by this year's May update.

Microsoft acknowledged the error and stated in the update log: This issue mainly affects devices without the English (US) language pack installed. However, Microsoft also said that some Windows servers may experience the above error even if they have the English (US) language pack installed.

TapTechNews attached the following content of Microsoft's KB5039705 update announcement:

This update addresses a known issue related to the English (US) language pack. If your device does not have this language pack, the installation of KB5037765 may fail with the error code 0x800f0982. But this problem may affect devices with the language pack with the error code 0x80004005.

To fix this known problem, administrators must download the OOB update using Windows Update, WSUS, or the Microsoft Update Catalog and install it on the affected servers.

Microsoft said that after installing this OOB update and restarting the server, the security updates released in the Patch Tuesday event in May 2024 can be successfully installed.
