According to sources, Google plans to assemble Pixel phones in Tamil Nadu and will cooperate with Foxconn to establish a new production line. Sources also said that Google's subsidiary Wing will also assemble drones in Tamil Nadu.

Google's decision will benefit Tamil Nadu, which is striving to get involved in advanced manufacturing and get rid of the historical label of Detroit of India.

Sources said that a group of the Tamil Nadu government, including Minister of Industry T.R.B. Rajaa and senior officials, had talks with senior Google executives in the US to lobby them to use the province as a manufacturing base.

Google has not yet responded to a request for comment.

TapTechNews noted that Google announced last year that it will produce Pixel 8 smartphones in India, but did not disclose the specific location. Apple has already shifted some iPhone production to India, and Samsung Electronics has also set up an assembly plant in India.
