BYD's 7000-Vehicle Dual-Fuel Car Ro-Ro Ship Undocked, Strengthening Overseas Supply

Representatives from BYD, Intercontinental Maritime Consultants, DNV Classification Society, and China Classification Society attended the undocking ceremony. The representatives of BYD, DNV Classification Society, and the project leader of Guangzhou Shipyard International signed the relevant progress documents on behalf of the three parties respectively.

The BYD 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel car carrier is the green and low-carbon upgraded version 2.0 of the series of car carriers under construction by Guangzhou Shipyard International. The ship has a total length of 656 feet (about 199.9 meters), a beam of 125 feet (about 38 meters), a designed draft of 29.5 feet (about 9 meters), a designed speed of 18.5 knots, and can carry 7,000 vehicles, which can meet the loading requirements of both fuel vehicles and electric vehicles.

The ship adopts a natural gas (LNG)/fuel dual-fuel propulsion system, is equipped with a domestic battery system and a permanent magnet shaft generator with a抱轴 type, meets the ammonia (ready) classification symbol requirements of the DNV Classification Society, and also adopts various energy-saving measures such as LNG BOG recondensation, energy-saving devices, and drag-reducing and antifouling paint. A total of 2 ships of this series are planned to be built.

In addition, the No. 2 ship of the 7,000-vehicle LNG dual-fuel car carrier (PCTC) built by Guangzhou Shipyard International for CITIC Financial Leasing Co., Ltd. also successfully undocked on the same day. The ship has a total length of 656 feet (about 199.9 meters), a beam of 125 feet (about 38 meters), a depth of 48.6 feet (about 14.8 meters), a designed draft of 28.2 feet (about 8.6 meters), and a speed of 19 knots. It has a total of 12 vehicle decks and can be used to transport models such as cars, vans, and heavy-duty trucks, and can also transport some dangerous goods and new energy vehicles. It is a new generation of large green car carrier.

According to the previous reports of TapTechNews, the BYD Pioneer 1 car ro-ro carrier has completed two trips to Europe. The ship was built by CIMC Raffles under CIMC Group and has 7,000 parking spaces and is suitable for loading various new energy vehicles. The undocking of BYD's new 7,000-vehicle dual-fuel car carrier means that BYD cars have more guarantees in the aspect of overseas supply.
