Zed Editor's Native Linux Version Officially Released

TapTechNews July 12th news, the native Linux version of the Zed editor has been officially released. Zed is a modern open-source code editor, built from the ground up using Rust technology and equipped with a GPU-accelerated renderer.

TapTechNews note: Linux distribution users can install Zed by running the following Shell command:

curl https//zed.dev/install.sh | sh

The official said in the blog post that the launch of the native Linux version is crucial to promoting the development of the Zed editor.

Zed on Linux is using the Vulkan API for GPU acceleration and supports both Wayland and X11 sessions. So far, the official focus of Zed has mainly been on testing under Ubuntu.

According to public information, the biggest advantage of the Zed editor is high performance, claiming to be able to fully utilize the CPU and GPU capabilities of the device to make the application start, file loading, and keyboard response speed faster. The official claims that compared to Microsoft Visual Studio Code, Zed's start-up speed is 4 times faster, and the RAM usage is half as much.
