Google Urgently Releases Chrome Security Update to Fix High-Risk Vulnerability

TapTechNews August 23 news, the tech media TheHackerNews released a blog post yesterday (August 22), reporting that Google has urgently released a Chrome browser security update to fix the high-risk security vulnerability with the tracking number CVE-2024-7971.

This vulnerability exists in the V8 JavaScript and WebAssembly engines and is a type confusion vulnerability.

The NIST National Vulnerability Database (NVD) described: In Chrome 128.0.6613.84 and previous versions, there is a V8 engine type confusion problem, and a remote attacker can launch a heap corruption attack through a carefully crafted HTML page.

The Microsoft Threat Intelligence Center (MSTIC) and the Microsoft Security Response Center (MSRC) discovered and reported this vulnerability on August 19, 2024.

Google acknowledges that there is already evidence that hackers have used this vulnerability to launch attacks. It is worth noting that CVE-2024-7971 is the third V8 type confusion vulnerability patched this year after CVE-2024-4947 and CVE-2024-5274.

Google has released the Google Chrome v128 stable channel update. This update is v128.0.6613.84 for Windows and Linux, and v128.0.6613.85 for Mac. TapTechNews attaches the update links as follows:
