Niantic Launches NianticStudio A New AR Scene Creator

TapTechNews June 19th news, the game developer Niantic of Pokémon GO has launched an online editor called NianticStudio recently, allowing developers to create AR scenes directly in a web browser.

Niantic officially describes this editor as a real-time online mixed reality development tool, claiming that it can provide developers with a highly visual dynamic interface and allow them to customize models, lighting, animations, cameras, and then create an immersive 3D mixed reality experience suitable for mobile phones or VR. The overall experience is somewhat similar to the online model rendering tool provided by the model platform Sketchfab, or can be regarded as the web version of renderers such as Cinema4D/Blender.

In addition to providing scene rendering, NianticStudio also claims to have a powerful web game engine built-in, allowing developers to add various scripts to AR scenes to achieve a gamified style experience.

Officials mentioned that NianticStudio also supports the real-time editing playback mode. Developers can conduct real-time previews while editing scenes, and the system will automatically save the progress to achieve cross-platform support and model assets always online, enabling developers to obtain a consistent experience on computers, mobile devices, VR and other platforms only with one build. The drawback is that it requires real-time networking.

Niantic has also updated its 3D scanning tool Scaniverse, adding a new technology called Gaussian Splatting, claiming that it can make the 3D scanning experience of mobile devices more rapid.
