Apple Approves EpicGames' app market after previous rejections

TapTechNews July 6th news, Apple and Epic have various grievances regarding the control of the iOS app ecosystem. TapTechNews reported last night that EpicGames accused Apple of having twice rejected its application to open a game store on European iPhones and iPads. However, according to Reuters, Apple has now officially approved EpicGames' app market.

In reference to last night's report, Epic posted on X platform saying that Apple twice rejected its application to open a game store on European iPhones and iPads on the grounds that the in-app buttons/tags are too similar to Apple's official ones. Epic believes that the relevant rejection actions are arbitrary and obstructive, and violate the EU's Digital Markets Act. In response, Epic has informed the European Commission of these claims.

An Apple spokesperson told Reuters that their rejection of the relevant application was not due to previous grievances. Currently, Apple has officially passed the application for opening the relevant game store, indicating that Epic will launch the EpicGamesStore and the iOS version of Fortnite in the EU region in the coming months.

In reference to TapTechNews' previous reports, Epic and Apple have been deeply embroiled in legal disputes since 2020. Epic alleges that Apple charges up to 30% commission on the revenue generated from in-app purchases on iOS devices, claiming that this practice violates US antitrust regulations.

Earlier this year, Apple proposed amendments to the AppStore policy in response to certain directives in the Digital Markets Act that took effect in March this year. Currently, several companies have launched third-party app stores in the EU.
