Panmnesia's New Technology Allows GPU to Access System Storage via CXL

TapTechNews July 5th news, with the support of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Panmnesia has newly demonstrated a new technology that allows the GPU to directly access the system storage through the ComputeExpressLink (CXL) interface, meaning that the GPU can use the system storage as its video memory.

The company named this PCIe attached video memory solution as CXLGPUImage, with a latency time of less than 100 nanoseconds, which is significantly faster than traditional solid-state drives.

TapTechNews note: CXL is a protocol that works on the PCIe link, but this technology must be recognized by the ASIC and its subsystems. Since there is no CXL logical structure and subsystem in the GPU that supports DRAM and high-speed SSD endpoints, it is not possible to simply add a CXL controller to the technology stack. For this reason, Panmnesia has developed a series of hardware layers that support all key CXL protocols and integrated them into a unified controller to achieve this result.
