Apple's 'Screen Time' Feature Has Bug, Will Be Fixed in Next Update

TapTechNews June 5th news, I believe everyone has frequently seen problems such as indulgence in online games and short-video apps in recent years, not to mention teenagers whose study life and even health have begun to be negatively affected by smart devices such as mobile phones.

In response to the increasingly serious problem of mobile phone addiction, Apple launched the 'Screen Time' feature in iOS12, so that users can decide how to use their devices, and at the same time can set time limits and access restrictions on the content they want to manage on their own device or their child's device.

'Screen Time' will show how much time you spend on apps, websites, etc., and at the same time you can also get information about how you and your family members use the device (TapTechNews note: including what apps and websites are used, and how often the device is picked up) and restrict it.

However, since the launch of this feature, there has always been a bug - users (including minors) can simply type a special character in the Safari address bar to browse the content on the web freely, whether it's pornographic or violent content, and can even search on Google 'how to buy cocaine', and the application usage time limit set for children (such as one hour limit for YouTube usage) is also completely useless.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple will fix this loophole in the next iOS version update. Allegedly, this loophole has been dug out by security researchers and reported to Apple many times as early as three years ago, but Apple has always chosen to ignore it. And it is because of Apple's nonchalance that many parents have been unable to trust this feature anymore.

An Apple spokesperson said the company 'is aware of the problem in the underlying web technology protocol for developers that allows users to bypass web content restrictions', and Apple 'plans to fix this problem in the next software update'.

Apple said that they 'take reports about Screen Time issues very seriously and are constantly improving', including the'major Screen Time loophole' in the latest version iOS 17.5, but did not say a word about what they were doing in the previous three years.
