Social media platform X allows sharing of adult content

TapTechNews June 9th news, the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) updated its Community Guidelines last month and officially allowed users to share consented-to adult nudity or sexual activity content. According to the new rules, the relevant content must be labeled and must not be displayed in prominent positions (such as profile pictures or banners).

TapTechNews noted that after the new rules were released, the @Safety account of the X platform tweeted: We have launched adult content and violent content policies to more clearly explain our rules and improve the transparency of enforcement in these areas. These policies replace our previous sensitive media and violent speech policies, but our enforcement standards have not changed.

In fact, the X platform did not explicitly prohibit pornographic content in the past. Since the launch of TwitterBlue (now XPremium) service, some NSFW (Not Safe For Work) creators have taken X as their home and encouraged fans to pay to watch their content, a model similar to OnlyFans. After Elon Musk took over, the advertising sales of the X platform have declined, and NSFW content may become one of the new sources of income for the X platform.

According to the new rules, the X platform requires users who frequently post NSFW content to adjust their settings and label the pictures and videos they post as sensitive content. In addition, the rules of X apply to all types of adult content, including AI-generated, photo, and animated forms of content. By default, users under 18 years old or those who have not filled out their birth dates cannot view NSFW content. The new rules also prohibit any content that promotes exploitation, unconsented, objectification, sexualization, or harm and molestation to minors.

In March this year, the X platform announced that it will allow the NSFW community to apply for an adult content label to prevent posts from being automatically filtered. The platform also said that it will start to hide the like records on personal profiles so that users will not be exposed for liking adult or other offensive content.

Although the terms of service have been updated, it is easier said than done to crack down on violators. In 2022, the X team had already taken this into consideration when exploring the monetization of adult content. In January this year, a large number of AI-generated explicit pictures of Taylor Swift appeared on the platform, and the X failed to stop their spread in time.
