China's Automobile Industry in 2024 Progress, Challenges and Future Directions

TapTechNews July 12th news, during the 2024 China Automobile Forum held today, Xin Guobin, the vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, gave a keynote speech. Xin Guobin said that in the first half of this year, China's automobile industry has made steady progress, the auto sales increased by 6.1% year-on-year, and the sales of new energy vehicles increased by 32% year-on-year, accounting for 35.2% of the total new car sales. There have already been 20 cities that have initiated the integrated pilot work of vehicle-road-cloud.

Xin Guobin also emphasized that the current development of China's automobile industry still faces some problems and challenges.

There are shortcomings in automotive chips, basic software, etc.;

The new generation of power batteries, autonomous driving and other new technologies competition is intensifying;

The domestic consumer demand is not strong enough, the market competition is extremely fierce, and there are some disordered competition phenomena;

Many enterprises profits have decreased or even suffered losses, and the situation of arrears between enterprises has increased.

Xin Guobin said that these phenomena have affected and impacted the stability of the industrial chain and supply chain, and some countries and regions have built economic and trade policy barriers, which has seriously disrupted the normal international economic and trade order. He also proposed that the automobile industry needs to adhere to innovation-driven, sustainable development and open cooperation. The key for multinational auto companies to weather the storm and remain resilient over time lies in always adhering to quality first and service first. (Chinese auto companies) should aim to be century-old stores, cherish a sense of awe, be steadfast in innovation, move steadily and far, resolutely resist improper competitive behaviors.
