Sony Xperia 1VI Officially Released with Upgraded Screen, Camera, and Performance

TechNews, May 15 - Sony Xperia 1VI has been officially released, with comprehensive improvements over Xperia 1V.

The biggest change is in the screen aspect. Xperia 1VI abandons the 21:9 ratio 4K OLED screen of Xperia 1V, and instead adopts the more common 19.5:9 ratio 1080x2340 resolution display. Although the screen size remains at 6.5 inches, the actual visible screen area has slightly increased due to the new screen ratio.

At the same time, Xperia 1VI's screen brightness has also been increased from 900 nits to 1300 nits. In addition, its screen also uses LTPO panel, which can intelligently adjust the refresh rate based on the display content, freely switching between 1Hz and 120Hz. In contrast, Xperia 1V's screen refresh rate switches between 60Hz and 120Hz.

The inclusion of LTPO panel will help improve the battery life of Xperia 1VI. Sony stated that its built-in 5000mAh battery can support two days of usage. Additionally, Xperia 1VI also supports 30W fast charging, which can charge the battery to 50% in 30 minutes. Thanks to Xperia's battery maintenance function and Xperia's adaptive charging function, Sony claims that the battery of Xperia 1VI can still retain at least 80% capacity after 4 years of use.

In terms of audio, Xperia 1VI has also been upgraded, with larger front stereo speakers and lower distortion. The 3.5mm headphone jack also uses a new PremiumAudioCircuit audio circuit, providing better audio output.

In terms of performance, Xperia 1VI is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, coupled with 12GB of RAM. The European version offers 256GB of storage space, while the Japanese and East Asian versions offer 512GB of storage space. It is worth mentioning that Sony has finally added a vapor chamber cooling system to its flagship phone, which will greatly improve the heat dissipation performance of Xperia 1VI. In addition, Xperia 1VI also features an FPS optimizer, which can dynamically adjust CPU usage and frame rate based on the game environment.

Regarding the camera, the parameters of the rear camera of Xperia 1VI look similar to Xperia 1V, but Sony has optimized the sensor and lens. The 48MP main camera still uses a 1/1.35-inch sensor, but this year it has added a full-resolution 48MP shooting mode. In addition, the telephoto lens has been upgraded, with Xperia 1VI's telephoto lens having an equivalent focal length of 85mm-170mm (3.5x to 7.1x optical zoom), providing stronger zoom capabilities compared to the 85-110mm lens of Xperia 1V. It is worth mentioning that Xperia 1VI's telephoto lens also supports macro shooting, with a minimum focusing distance of 4cm (2x magnification).

Both the front and back glass of Xperia 1VI are made of Corning Gorilla Glass, with the front being Victus version and the back being Victus1 version. The surface of the rear glass has a frosted texture, similar to the previous generation products. Like Xperia 1V, the aluminum frame of Xperia 1VI also has grooved texture.

In terms of system, Xperia 1VI will come pre-installed with Android 14, with Sony promising three generations of Android major updates and four years of security updates.

Xperia 1VI offers black, silver, and green color options, with a starting price of 1399 euros (TapTechNews note: approximately 10940 RMB), and will be available for sale in early June.
