TapTechNews August 6th news, Microsoft Corporation today released an announcement declaring that future versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems will no longer support Adobe PostScript Type 1 font, but the official did not publicly announce the specific deactivation time.
The content of Microsoft's announcement is as follows:
Adobe has announced in January 2023 that its latest software products no longer support PostScript Type 1 font. Microsoft recommends that users delete their reliance on this font type and migrate to other font types that are in a supported state.
To display the currently installed fonts, go to Settings > Personalization > Fonts. Application developers and content owners should test their applications and data files after deleting the Adobe Type 1 font.
For more detailed information, please contact the application vendor or Adobe.
TapTechNews note: Type 1 font (also known as PostScript, PS1, T1, Adobe Type 1, MultipleMaster, abbreviated as MM) is a format in the font industry and has been replaced by a format that can support larger character sets.
Type 1 font was introduced by Adobe in 1984 and used in conjunction with its PostScript page description language, and became widely used with the popularity of PostScript-enabled desktop publishing software and printers.
In 1996, Adobe's product and text development began to focus on the more versatile OpenType font, and the attention to Type 1 decreased.
Most browsers and mobile operating systems do not support Type 1 fonts. Similar to Adobe, most operating systems are likely to continue to evolve to support the more powerful technical potential of the OpenType format font and stop supporting the Type 1 format.
