Google Pixel 9 Series New Gemini AI and Tensor G4 with Mixed Performance

Although the Tensor G4 has improvements in AI and security, its traditional benchmark performance is still not satisfactory, and is closer to mid-range chip sets compared to the latest flagship chips of Apple, MediaTek, and Qualcomm.

TapTechNews noticed that in the CPU tests of GeekBench 6 and PCMark, the Pixel 9 series performed significantly worse than Apple's iPhone 15 and Samsung's Galaxy S24 series. In the GeekBench 6 test, the Pixel 9 is 22% slower than the Galaxy S24 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen3 in the single-core test and 36% slower in the multi-core test. The Pixel 9 is also 43% slower than the Galaxy S24 in PCMark, and the performance is also very different from that of Apple's iPhone 15.

In addition, the graphic performance of the Pixel 9 series is also behind the competitors. In the 3DMark's Wildlife Extreme test, the Pixel 9 has 20% lower graphic performance compared to the iPhone 15, and is only half the performance compared to phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen3.

However, the graphic performance of the Tensor G4 is relatively stable under long-term operation, which is considered a bright spot.

Google once said that they do not pursue benchmark performance, but it is reported that Google's original plan for the Tensor G4 was more ambitious, but due to the tight schedule, Google finally adopted the ZumaPro design based on the Tensor G3. In the future, Google may adopt TSMC's manufacturing process to improve the performance and energy efficiency of the Tensor G5.
