MetaQuest 3's Augments Function Delayed and to Be Redesigned

On June 19, TapTechNews reported that when Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, initially described the vision of the MetaQuest 3, it included a significant amount of mixed reality content. The core of this vision is 'Augmentation', through which users can place digital items on the walls, ceilings, floors, tables in their homes, and even float in the air, aiming to encourage users to wear the headset for a long time by providing practical tools and artworks.

However, Andrew Bosworth, the chief technology officer of Meta, said in an Instagram AMA event on June 17 that this function did not meet the initial intended goal, so it needs to be redesigned. Part of the problem is that the Augments function was initially built on Meta's SparkStudio platform, but the latest AR tools of Quest are more suitable for the functions that Meta initially hoped to achieve.

According to TapTechNews's understanding, the Augments function was first unveiled at the MetaConnect conference in 2023, when Zuckerberg talked about a series of application scenarios such as placing digital picture frames on the wall, and this function was originally planned to be launched this year.

Bosworth did not disclose what the improved Augments function will ultimately look like nor did he announce its launch time.
