The so-called customization is what the industry calls fine-tuning. Through fine-tuning, existing AI models can be optimized for specific tasks or fields. For example, a skateboard company can fine-tune an AI model to make it a customer service chatbot that can answer questions about wheels and skateboard care.

Previously, OpenAI only allowed users to fine-tune its smaller models, such as GPT-4omini. And this time, opening the fine-tuning function of GPT-4o and GPT-4 means that enterprises can optimize OpenAI's most powerful model more directly without relying on external services or using models with lower performance. Olivier Godement, the head of OpenAI products, said that he hopes to make it easier for customers to adjust their most powerful models by directly cooperating with companies and simplify the operation process.

According to TapTechNews' understanding, enterprises need to upload data to the OpenAI server for model fine-tuning, which takes an average of one to two hours. Currently, fine-tuning only supports text-based data, and other types of data such as images are not supported for the time being.
