IMF Chief Warns of AI Impact on Labor Market

TapTechNews May 15 news, according to Reuters, Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), recently stated at an event in Zurich, Switzerland that AI will cause a 'tsunami-like' impact on the labor market.

Georgieva said, 'We have very little time to prepare people and companies for this.'

As mentioned in a previous report by TapTechNews, she believes that AI may affect 40% of global jobs in the next two years, with a larger impact on job positions in developed economies, reaching 60%.

Georgieva added, 'If managed properly, it (AI) can greatly increase productivity, but it may also lead to more misinformation and exacerbate social inequality.'

The IMF chief stated before the World Bank and IMF Spring Meetings in April that how to deal with the emergence of AI has become the biggest issue facing the global economy.

She said at the time, 'AI could greatly accelerate the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This brings immense potential benefits, but also introduces risks... Investment in digital infrastructure, skills, and a robust social safety net will determine the speed of AI adoption and its impact on productivity.'
