The First Multimodal Geographical Science Large Model 'Kun Yuan' Released in China
TapTechNews September 19th news, on September 19th, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units officially released the world's first multimodal geographical science large model Kun Yuan (SigmaGeography).
According to the introduction, this large model is a professional language large model dedicated to geographical science, with the professional ability to handle problems related to geographical science.
The R & D team has completed the construction of a full-spectrum high-quality corpus of geography, the construction of a geographical science language large model, and the research and development of a geographical science research intelligent guidance platform, so that Kun Yuan has the characteristics of understanding geography, fine mapping, knowing people's hearts, and intelligent map generation, realizing functions such as answering geographical professional questions, intelligent analysis of geographical literature, query of geographical data resources, mining and analysis of geographical data, and drawing of thematic maps.
TapTechNews learned from publicly available information that the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was approved by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in September 1999 and was integrated from the Institute of Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (whose predecessor was the Institute of Chinese Geography established in 1940) and the Comprehensive Survey Committee for Natural Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (established in 1956).
As of the end of 2023, the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has a total of 647 regular employees, including 10 academicians of the two academies, 4 academicians of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, 1 academician of the European Academy of Sciences, 191 researchers and senior professional technicians with the title of professor, and 303 associate researchers and deputy senior professional technicians.
