Apple Cancels launch of Micro-LED-screen AppleWatch, LG's investment affected

TapTechNews August 12th, according to the Korean media Elec, as Apple decided to slow down the application speed of new panels, the company has cancelled the launch of the AppleWatch with Micro-LED screen for now.

Although Apple has not placed any Micro-LED orders with LG, foreign media mentioned that LG has actually invested hundreds of millions of Korean won in Micro-LED technology according to industry rumors, and at the same time has set up a special working group to ensure the process space for the Micro-LED panel used by Apple's AppleWatch.

Although there is no strict legal liability between Apple and LG on this matter, foreign media reports indicate that a possible result is that Apple will increase the price of iPhone and iPad OLED panels paid to LG as a 'compensation form' for 'LG deliberately preparing in advance for Apple's Micro-LED AppleWatch', so as to ensure the partnership among the supply chain.

TapTechNews learned that the Micro-LED panel technology uses miniature LEDs on individual pixels, which is more energy-efficient, has higher contrast, faster response time, brighter and better colors than traditional LEDs, and there will be no burn-in risk like OLED panels. However, the main problem of such panels is that the cost is too high and the design is too complicated.
