AMD's FSR3.1 and Frame Generation Technology Boost SteamDeck's Gaming Performance

The YouTube tech channel ETAPrime showcased five popular titles that benefit from this technology, including the highly praised 'Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered', 'Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales', and 'Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart'.

After testing, thanks to the加持 of FSR3.1 and frame generation technology, these games can run smoothly on SteamDeck at a resolution of 720p or 800p. Before enabling this technology, these games could only maintain a frame rate of 30 to 45 FPS under medium graphics settings, but after enabling it, they can stably reach 60 FPS or even higher.

Taking the 'Ghost of Tsushima' which is not so friendly to low-spec systems as an example, thanks to FSR3.1 and frame generation technology, SteamDeck can now increase the game frame rate to more than 70 FPS at 800p resolution and medium graphics settings. It is worth noting that all these tests use the 'balanced' mode of FSR, and choosing the 'performance' mode can also get higher frame rate performance.

TapTechNews noticed that another challenging game, 'Horizon Forbidden West', also appeared in ETAPrime's tests. Although the official claims that this game does not support SteamDeck, players can make it run through some means. Unfortunately, even if FSR is adjusted to the 'performance' mode, the resolution is reduced to 720p and the lowest graphics settings are used, it is still difficult to achieve a stable 60 FPS on SteamDeck. However, by locking the GPU core frequency at 1600 MHz, the game experience can still be improved to a certain extent.

In general, AMD FSR3.1 and frame generation technology are very excellent functions for handheld game devices such as SteamDeck. Currently, this technology only supports a small number of games, but it is believed that more works will join the support list in the future.
