China Unicom App Built-in Phone Mini-program for WiFi Calling

TapTechNews July 15th news, according to contributions from friends, the official App of China Unicom has built-in a phone mini-program, which is briefly described as 'WiFi calling' and is expected to support the function of making calls over WiFi network.

TapTechNews tested that currently, both iOS and Android apps have built-in this mini-program, and users can directly search and view it within the China Unicom application, but only invited users can experience it for now, and the experience qualifications will be gradually opened up later.

WiFi calling is not a new technology. In May last year, China Telecom officially launched the VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) service, and the first batch supported the use of WiFi dialing for voice and video calls in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Foshan.

In January this year, China Telecom announced a breakthrough in the 'atellite + VoWiFi' in the aviation scenario, and ordinary mobile phone terminals can realize functions such as mobile phone authentication, triple-network voice, SMS interoperability, and video calls through the on-board Internet environment in flight mode.
